Everyone who's turned on a television set within the last two years has heard electronic duo Goldfrapp. Its glam-inspired disco rock has become a sonic staple, of sorts, equally at home in Target and Verizon advertisements as on dance floors. Well, if there's one thing to be said for Seventh Tree, it's this: These songs ain't goin' on no car commercials.

Katzen brings bi-coastal talent to campus

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Next week, the UA School of Music will present a new member of its faculty, and a distinguished one at that. Daniel Katzen, associate professor of horn, came to the UA in August, but has yet to officially settle in; he continues to split his time between Arizona and Boston, where he is completing his 29th year as second horn in the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Getting the third degree

The red carpet interview that Ryan Seacrest held at the Academy Awards on Sunday led me to believe that Seacrest doesn't know appropriate questions to ask a women with child, or at least if that women is Jessica Alba. When Seacrest was interviewing Jessica “Don't call me Latina” Alba, he decided it would be appropriate to request the knowledge of whether or not she was going to breast-feed.

The culture of campus clubs

Friday, February 29th, 2008

The artistic spectacles of tomorrow will be held by today's students, and the movers and shakers in the art community can be found in the wide range of artsy clubs on the UA campus. We have everything from fire-dancing and Middle Ages reenactments to break-dancing and throwing pots.

Newfound depth shores up concerns in backcourt

Friday, February 29th, 2008

If the Arizona women's basketball team learned anything from its injury-riddled season last year, it was this: Make sure you

have depth.

Head coach Joan Bonvicini applied this lesson well at guard this season after her seven backcourt players dwindled to only three over the offseason.

Sixth sense, size make pair of twins lethal combo

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Studies have shown that twins tend to share a bond so strong that it could almost be described as mystical.

It's something UA head coach Joan Bonvicini learned after adding two pairs of twins to her roster last season.

Off the court, both sets of sisters illustrated their bonds by refusing to sign with a school that would not take their sibling as a tandem.

Toughening up Arizona basketball

Friday, February 29th, 2008

The simple terms Kevin O'Neill uses to describe his defense make him sound like your average middle school basketball coach.

Man-to-man defense, no easy baskets, take away the open 3s and make the opposition shoot contested 2s.

But the Wildcats are not paying O'Neill $375,000 this year - believed to be the highest assistant salary in college basketball - for such simple strategy.
