Pride Week makes a few stops at Rainbow Planet

Since 1977, Tucson Pride, Inc., a non-profit organization, has been hosting and creating events involving music, performances and social gatherings. From June 20 to 29, TPI has planned entertaining events all over Tucson.

If you've been missing out on Pride Week so far, there is still time to attend some of these enjoyable and sometimes humorous events.

KAMP reps confident about August vote

After hearing from KAMP Student Radio representatives last Friday, the Arizona Board of Regents' Tuition Task Force decided to hold a final vote on the radio station's funding fate during their August meeting.

Because students overwhelmingly approved the funding by a two-thirds vote for the referendum in March, KAMP representative Melissa Vito is confident the proposed $1 optional student fee will be approved, she said.

'Phoenix' team determining habitability of Mars ice

After weeks of speculation, the UA-led Phoenix Lander sent back data last week confirming that it had found ice from water on Mars, a huge milestone for the project.

During a June 20 teleconference with reporters, Peter Smith, the mission's principal investigator, announced that images received from 'Phoenix' had confirmed that it had unearthed ice just below the Martian surface.

Despite scare, salmonella impact proves minimal for campus area

Although campus diners will have to wait a little longer, students can look forward to the prospect of salmonella-free tomatoes in the near future.

In response to a June 7 Food and Drug

Administration warning of a nationwide outbreak of Salmonella Saintpaul in some types of tomato, all restaurants on campus stopped serving tomatoes in mid-June and most restaurants around the university followed suit.

UA looking beyond the 'Phoenix' Mars mission

The fun won't be over when the UA-led Phoenix Mars Lander's batteries fail and its computers freeze up in the Martian arctic after the end of its three-month mission.

With the permanent Science Operations Center now built in Tucson - and the recognition the UA enjoys as the first university to lead a mission to another planet - university officials are saying that 'Phoenix' is only just beginning to pay dividends to the school.

While you were lazing around the pool this summer, the students in Nathan Abel's Alternative Methods to Printmaking pre-session course were busy making art. “Underpressuretwentythreefiftythree” is the long name for the small exhibit of artwork that was cranked out during the three-week pre-session.

Almost everyone I talk to back in Tucson informs me of two facts from home: It's hot as hell and gas costs over $4 a gallon. While I offer my condolences regarding the heat, I have no sympathy for the current price of gas. In fact, I welcome it. Here in Europe, gas is bought by the liter.
