The Mix

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

In one day, the culmination of sharing and giving thanks arrives. But, let's be honest, Thanksgiving is more about the food than any of the other pleasantries. In the holiday's honor, the arts staff at the Arizona Daily Wildcat compiled a mix of songs that, in one way or another, deals with food.

(Not) Home for the holidays

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

While many UA students will spend Thanksgiving at home with their families, some students cite work, travel expenses and a short academic break as reasons to stay in Tucson over the holiday.

They might look like the poisonous fruit from the Super Mario Bros. games, but don't let the strange appearance deter you from trying Fuyu persimmons.

Fuyus, characterized by their burned auburn flesh and crisp, firm texture, are more commonly known as the “Asian apple,” and have a taste like that of a Fuji apple crossed with a Bosc pear.

Got the late-night munchies?

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

When the wee hours of the morning roll around and UA students are craving some good eats, local sandwich shops Jimmy John's and Silver Mine Subs are among some of the only restaurants near campus with their lights still on, as they stay open until 3 a.m. With only 800 feet separating them, the late-night shops may seem to cater to the same crowd.

Make it a happy flicksgiving

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

There comes a point during every family get-together when friends and loved ones get irrevocably irritated with each other. Mom has instated a threat-level-orange quarantine on the kitchen as she bastes and seasons with military precision. Dad sips a cold one on the couch and, with increasing unease, abides grandpa's hissing hearing aid.

Give thanks with or without your family

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

So you don't get to go home for Thanksgiving. Or maybe you don't want to. Regardless, you should still savor every bit of the turkey-day goodness, whether you eat poultry or not. So throw a party in your dorm, house

or apartment tomorrow; have dinner with your urban tribe - family that isn't related to you by blood - your friends and lonely neighbors.

Dream season 10 plays away

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

In a sense, Oregon State's potential dream season this year could easily belong to Arizona.

The Wildcats' five losses have been by a total of 28 points, and they've had a chance to take the lead or tie the game late in the fourth quarter in each of those contests.

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Seven grueling years of hissy fits and “drunk and disorderly” charges later, Axl Rose's brainchild, Chinese Democracy, finally hit shelves in America on Sunday.

There should be a disclaimer written on the front of Chinese Democracy: Warning, this is not a Guns N' Roses album.
