Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

College is full of many life lessons: how to pull an all-nighter, how to date a complete hottie and, eventually, as is the fate of starving students everywhere, how to live on the cheap. Thrift stores are a great way to not only save cash but also to get unique finds that fit any student's budget, or lack thereof.

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Learning the college game through summer pickup games is only half of the battle when entering a Division I basketball program.

Picking up the pace in the classroom is a big adjustment, too.

Enrolling in school for the second summer session of classes, both guard Lamont 'MoMo' Jones and wing Kevin Parrom are finding their way in Tucson before the fall semester begins.

The first year of college can be a liberating experience for new students in more ways than one. While most incoming freshmen will hopefully use their newfound independence to dive headfirst into the collegiate world of learning, others could find themselves on the Dean of Students' naughty list.

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

The Greek system at the UA is one of the biggest student organizations on campus.

But is rushing worth it?

Let's take a look at the sorority rush process:

More than 1,000 women sign up, with a fee, to take part in formal fall rush. They move in to the dorms (or other places of living) early, with a fee, and brave the Tucson heat, waking up early in the morning the first day to be broken up into groups alphabetically by last name.

Freshman 15 beatable

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Incoming freshman have to deal with significant challenges when entering college - leaving behind family and friends, navigating a new campus and city and the often unpredictable and demanding expectations of eccentric college professors.

One aspect of life that undergoes a major change, but is all too often overlooked, is the quality of students' health.

Studying abroad proves there's no place like home

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

After spending six weeks in Paris on a UA study abroad program, I'd like to debunk a well-known French stereotype: Most Americans think the French are inherently rude people. Though I disagree, I understand why Americans may perceive the French as cold. The French seem rude simply because they don't believe in filler conversation or small acts of kindness between strangers, at least in Paris.

How to spot a douchebag

Douchebags are out there, ladies, and they can all too often be difficult to spot.

They are especially adept at infiltrating after-hours establishments to find women to slobber on, and they often travel in numbers, for security.

The Summer Wildcat staff has assembled a checklist to help women spot these loathsome creatures and avoid any contact with any of their shenanigans.

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Avoid getting extra crispy by engaging in sweaty fitness that drips with fun. One of the perks of Tucson is the natural landscape, but sometimes you just don't want to increase your skin cancer risk. On campus, fitness classes can break up the monotony of playing with gym equipment.
