Don't rush into Greek life, say current members

by

The Greek system at the UA is one of the biggest student organizations on campus.

But is rushing worth it?

Let's take a look at the sorority rush process:

More than 1,000 women sign up, with a fee, to take part in formal fall rush. They move in to the dorms (or other places of living) early, with a fee, and brave the Tucson heat, waking up early in the morning the first day to be broken up into groups alphabetically by last name.

10 things to do when you're under 21

by

It can be tough trying to find fun and exciting things to do in Tucson if you're under the age of 21. While your roommates and friends are going out to bars, you can enjoy some of the other things that this city has to offer.

The Summer Wildcat has comprised a list of suggested activities that will keep you occupied and out of trouble .

Dorms profit from 'community feel'

by

Hey freshman! New in town, or new on campus? Many studies done through UA Residence Life and the Admissions Office have shown that living on campus, in one of the university's 21 residence halls, improves the overall college quality and experience in those first years.

Zim Whim: Sports network will push UA ahead

by

For avid Wildcat sports fans, last week's announcement of the Arizona Wildcats Sports Network left some viewers grateful but many others aghast. In short, the AWSN will ensure statewide Wildcat basketball and football coverage when Pacific 10 Conference networks don't pick up a game for broadcast.

Freshman 15 beatable

by

Incoming freshman have to deal with significant challenges when entering college - leaving behind family and friends, navigating a new campus and city and the often unpredictable and demanding expectations of eccentric college professors.

One aspect of life that undergoes a major change, but is all too often overlooked, is the quality of students' health.

Studying abroad proves there's no place like home

by

After spending six weeks in Paris on a UA study abroad program, I'd like to debunk a well-known French stereotype: Most Americans think the French are inherently rude people. Though I disagree, I understand why Americans may perceive the French as cold. The French seem rude simply because they don't believe in filler conversation or small acts of kindness between strangers, at least in Paris.

How to spot a douchebag

by

Douchebags are out there, ladies, and they can all too often be difficult to spot.

They are especially adept at infiltrating after-hours establishments to find women to slobber on, and they often travel in numbers, for security.

The Summer Wildcat staff has assembled a checklist to help women spot these loathsome creatures and avoid any contact with any of their shenanigans.

Fun ways to get fit

by

Avoid getting extra crispy by engaging in sweaty fitness that drips with fun. One of the perks of Tucson is the natural landscape, but sometimes you just don't want to increase your skin cancer risk. On campus, fitness classes can break up the monotony of playing with gym equipment.

Riding along with Parking and Transportation Services

by

The Summer Wildcat recently spent the day with the UA Parking and Transportation Services to give readers an up-close-and-personal view of the employees that make the entire operation possible.

We were supposed to meet Glenn Grafton, a program coordinator for Parking and Transportation Services, at the Cat Tran storage lot on South Plumer Avenue.

'Mani-pedicure-philia'

by

Ooooh, honey. Sometimes the last thing you want to think about when you're busy settling in the “Tuc” is keeping those nails so fresh and so clean. Well, take a wellness day and march those dogs to some of the more affordable nail spots in town. Don't get caught up in whether the nail technicians are talking about you or giving those beautiful bountiful bunions (oh my!) some much-needed TLC.

Roommate rules to live by

by

1. Be very patient and open

You have to realize that there's a good chance your roommate is different from you and you have to be understanding of each other. Respect one another and try to talk through problems before jumping to the conclusion that it will never work.

Beer pong heating up as sport

by

Twenty-two red cups, a couple ping-pong balls and an eight-foot table - these items belong at fraternities and house parties. And those red cups? They should be filled with Keystone Light. Right? Wrong. “The actual sport of it, it's blown up competitively,” said Chris Gracia, whose career revolves around planning tournaments as founder of Fast Times Entertainment in Phoenix.

Students safety-minded about sex

by

Not everyone in college is having sex. Data released from Campus Health states that approximately half of first year students, and around one-third of all students, haven't had vaginal sex.

If you do plan on having sex, there are some basic facts to know before starting.
